Goals

1. Increase understanding about the vital link between public health, population growth and the environment.

2. Revive interest in population and increase commitment to family planning among policy makers and economists.

3. Enlarge the cohort of skilled professionals with a commitment to global family planning for the benefit of future generations.

4. Develop cost-effective and scalable innovations in family planning and reproductive health for resource-poor settings.

5. Contribute groundbreaking research with direct applicability to the reduction of maternal and infant mortality.

6. Help guide policy makers in prioritizing interventions to maximize health impact.

7. Improve local access to essential technologies and information by training and empowering mid-level and lower-level providers.

8. Advocate for community-level management and distribution of life-saving technologies and services that are demonstrated to be safe and effective.

9. Optimize existing human resources for health and family planning in both the public and private sectors.

10. Build and strengthen cross-disciplinary links with other institutes, centers and departments on the UC Berkeley campus and beyond.
