Bixby Summer Internship Presentation: Reproductive Health and Gender in New Delhi, India
October 3, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
For her summer internship Brittany Schmitt worked with the National Forum for Action on Convergence (NFAC) in New Delhi, India. Through an internship established by the UC Berkeley School of Social Welfare in collaboration with the University of Delhi School of Social Welfare, she worked with NFAC and their local partner organizations to focus on women and children’s health issues, reproductive health, family planning and women’s empowerment. During her time in India she was able to engage with young women at local Gender Resource Centers where their efforts were focused on health education, literacy and vocational training. Additionally, she assisted with a large research project coordinated by the Policy Perspectives Foundation researching women’s empowerment initiatives and future directions for programs for both national policy makers and local non-profit organizations.
The Bixby Center funds graduate student summer internships and dissertation research in the areas of family planning, population and reproductive health. The principal focus of the program is on family planning issues in developing countries where population growth rates remain high and reproductive health services are poor or inaccessible. All are invited to come hear the students present their work.
