Bixby Center Summer Intern Presentations

November 16, 2015 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Situational Analysis of Family Planning Training in Niger

Mollie Van Gordon, PhD Candidate, Geography

Mollie worked in collaboration with the OASIS (Organizing to Advance Solutions in the Sahel) Initiative to conduct a situational analysis of the state of family planning in Niger. Through interviews with key actors with decades of experience in family planning training institutions in Niger, she gathered information to identify strategic opportunities and inform OASIS’s engagement with this sector.  The message from key informants in the public and private sectors — University of Niger, Public Health training schools, Ministry of Public Health — all speak to the need for and potential impact of a center for excellence to support the family planning training infrastructure in the realms of expertise and advanced practice.

The Bixby Center funds graduate student summer internships and dissertation research in the areas of family planning, reproductive health and population. The principal focus of the program is on family planning in developing countries were population growth rates remain high and reproductive health services are poor or inaccessible.  All are invited to come hear the students present their work.
