Dr. Denis Mukwege on war, rape, justice, and healing

Join us for a discussion with Dr. Mukwege about his work and reflections on serving survivors of wartime sexual violence on Monday, May 4, 4 pm, at 180 Doe Library, UC Berkeley.

Dr. Denis Mukwege is the founder and medical director of Panzi Hospital in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and 2014 Sakharov Prize Laureate. Operating amid armed conflict, Panzi Hospital is revered worldwide for its innovative and holistic treatment of women—including many survivors of sexual violence. Dr. Mukwege is a world-renowned specialist in repairing internal injuries caused by rape.

This celebrated doctor recently won the 2014 Sakharov Prize for his tireless and humble work treating women suffering gynecological trauma, often as a result of wartime rape.
