Liz Crane, MPH Candidate in Maternal and Child Health, UC Berkeley
Liz Crane worked in Kigali and Musanze, Rwanda during summer 2017 to support the Bixby Center’s Family Planning Integration project, which aims to increase utilization of modern contraceptive methods and improve efficiency for family planning services provision through a service integration model. Liz worked with local staff and the Ministry of Health to support a new youth center in Musanze that provides integrated services for adolescents and young adults, including comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care, counseling, games and entertainment, computer training, education sessions, and a safe place for youth to socialize. Her work focused on creating educational presentations on sexual and reproductive health topics, drafting a youth health history and knowledge survey, developing data collection tools, and providing overall start-up phase support to the youth center. In addition, she began developing a provider toolkit to support the expansion of the family planning integration and youth center model to other districts in Rwanda.
