The long term goal of the project is to implement and evaluate a low-cost, sustainable method of accurately measuring maternal mortality and cause of death that will provide local and national governments with the data necessary to develop evidence-based solutions for improving maternal health. Rose traveled to all the districts in Unguja and to Chake Chake in Pemba to meet with community leaders, health facility staff, and District Health Medical Team members. She also spoke with officials from the Ministry of Health and other relevant ministries to gain feedback and further input into the program plan. Based on these interviews and feedback from a final presentation to the Ministry of Health and partners, Rose developed a structure for capturing and reporting maternal deaths, a program budget, and the implementation plan that will serve as the basis for the program plan in Zanzibar.
