Zambia Integrated Health Programme: a public/private mass communication campaign to improve health

March 6, 2015 / bixby

The Zambia Integrated Health Programme (ZIHPCOMM) is a collaboration between the Zambian Ministry of Health, USAID, a Swedish development agency, Johns Hopkins University and other players. ZIHPCOMM has launched a “Better Health Campaign”, which includes mass media communications such as weekly TV mini-documentaries, radio programs, and a TV talk show. Sean’s internship was based in Lusaka , the capitol, working on all aspects of this media campaign by researching reproductive health care information. In addition, he provided newspaper articles, poster ideas, and comments on past outreach.

While on location in the Kapiri Mposhi district, Sean observed ZIHP attempts to provide contraception for Zambians. Basic, necessary items were often unavailable to people. Women are unlikely to know that abortion is legal, making safe access to abortion difficult.
