Amol De Gabriel from the community-led media initiative Kakuma Cinema interviewed Bhavya Joshi, one of the Bixby Center's fellows on February 22, 2024 in Kakuma, Kenya. The conversation touched upon various topics, beginning with Bhavya’s background, and the purpose of her visit to Kakuma. She shared perspectives on the significance of her work in promoting reproductive health and well-being within the community. She concluded with a message to Kakuma's youth. The exchange highlighted the spirit of mutual learning and collaboration with the community.

Dr. Meg Brown's research presentation on Mobilizing Climate, Gender, and Health Research for Action
Dr. Brown is the Bixby Center's postdoctoral scholar. She conducts her research through Pathfinder’s Climate Resilience Innovation Lab.
Climate change is having a profound effect on health – including sexual and reproductive health. Effectively addressing these risks will require new approaches and partnerships. Over the past several months, Dr. Brown has worked with staff at Pathfinder International to develop and pilot the Climate Resilience Innovation Lab (CRIL), a workshop series designed to use participatory active learning exercises to leverage existing research and knowledge, build community, and develop translatable skills for climate innovation aligned with local needs and vision. This talk will offer an overview of connections between climate and reproductive health, introduce the CRIL approach, and share lessons learned that can be applied in participatory and community-based design research.
Gender Equity and Climate Change: Opportunities for Connection
The latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report has made clear the rapidly narrowing opportunity to enable climate resilient development. To create a different future, we must work differently, integrating across sectors, seeking synergy between climate and development actions, and highlighting diverse knowledge and innovation—especially from women and girls.
Women and girls may be the most affected by climate change—but they are also key to climate resilience and a thriving future.

Sexual and Reproductive Health in Emergency Settings
This is Bhavya Joshi's research presentation for Bixby Center. Bhavya is a second year student in the DrPH Program at the School of Public Health , UC Berkeley. She was one of Bixby Center's Summer Internship recipients in 2022. Her work centered on the issues of sexual and reproductive health in the refugee areas of Croatia.

She has designed the protocols and directed technical assistance and training for our clinical demonstration studies in Tanzania, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Zambia and Ethiopia. She is an Associate Professor in Residence of Maternal and Child Health in theSchool of Public Health, University of California, Berkeley where she also holds the Fred H. Bixby Endowed Chair in Population and Family Planning. Dr. Prata is also the Director of the Bixby Center for Population, Health and Sustainability at the University of California, Berkeley.
